sensus plenior, biblical hermeneutics, Adventist theologyAbstract
This article proposes to evaluate the debate surrounding the sensus plenior theory and its developments in the biblical hermeneutics of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA). To this end, the history of the development of the sensus plenior theory will be presented, including the tension among theologians regarding definitions and concepts. Furthermore, the position of Adventist hermeneutics concerning the use of the OT in the NT will be described, and the consequences of employing the sensus plenior theory within the SDA perspective will be evaluated. This research utilizes the bibliographic review method. Based on the survey conducted, it is possible to conclude that Adventism must be aware of how sensus plenior affects its hermeneutics and presuppositions, especially its view regarding the nature of Scripture.
